I haven't understood the average Mumbaikar's need to spit. Is there something in the air that causes excess saliva production that causes people to have to spit more? And they spit EVERYWHERE. The other day I was in Phoenix Mills and this man walking in front of me spat right outside Bombay Blues.
Dr PS Vivek from Mumbai University actually did a study on the spitting habits of Mumbaikars and it is quite interesting to read what he has to say about his findings. It's not just your clean white shirt that's at risk from th paan-chewing public, it's your health as well. But people will still continue chewing paan for 'timepass' or to make their lips 'red for beauty' and dirty the streets.

mobile spittoon..how is that fora product?
thought i can understand your dislike for the spit paved roads i am not sure that i share the same sentiments...some how those spit covered roads remind of kanpur and the cities i am used...as you said home ...strangely they bring with them a comfort level and as soon as i see them i know that this is a place where a person has the freedom to spit on the road nad move on with his life...yahan sab chalta hai...and i know this is a place whee i can survive ..:)
p.s. - this might be because i have had enough of clean roads of hattenheim
Do I know you? Came across your blog... I used to know a Rashmi Dalvi who was a couple of classes junior to me, in Madurai where I studied! Used to lose every game with her in Tennis.
Just wanted to check if you were the same person.
I've never stayed in mumbai to share your observations but the airport itself gives me a good enuff snapshot to verify your disgust!
Or maybe it is something about the "Mumbhai" culture..atleast the gangster-maamu who collects hafta around is a common sight to see in Bollywood..deja vu!
HI Rashmi,
Good to hear from you!
What are you doing in mumbai. What's your email id?
What's your brother doing? Is he still studying?
Ajit
A very Happy new Year..
long time!!
Hey Zulus!! Stopped blogging or what??
Even MLA's and municipal corporators violate this rule freely. I remeber reading somewhere that the deputy CM gave up his habit of tobacco. Way to lead :)
